Buying a 3D Printer: What Matters in 2026

If you want to get into 3D printing, the Bambu Lab A1 mini starting at around 170 EUR is a machine that's print-ready right out of the box. Print speeds over 500 mm/s, automatic calibration, zero tinkering. The Creality Ender 3 from 180 EUR is the classic choice for those who want to understand and optimize their printer themselves.

In the mid-range between 400 and 600 EUR, CoreXY printers like the Bambu Lab P1S or the Creality K2 Plus stand out. Both support multi-material printing with AMS or CFS. For those with high quality standards, the Prusa MK4S from around 800 EUR offers open-source firmware, input shaping and a complete ecosystem of slicer and filament profiles.

For fine details (miniatures, jewelry, dental models), a resin printer is the better choice. Anycubic and Elegoo offer MSLA devices from 150 EUR with resolutions up to 12K.

Four things matter when buying: build volume (is 220x220x250 mm enough or do you need bigger?), speed (current top models hit 300 to 600 mm/s), material compatibility (enclosed chamber is mandatory for ABS and Nylon) and upgrade path (can you swap the hotend? Is there a direct-drive extruder retrofit?).
